What is the best time to come in for an ultrasound? You may schedule an elective ultrasound at Silo Imaging Studio any time after 9 weeks. However, the timing of your ultrasound will depend on what you're hoping to get out of the experience. Many mamas like coming at least twice -- once early on, between 15-25 weeks (when you can see baby as a whole) and then again between 26-34 weeks to see more facial details. Starting around 28 weeks, baby starts to develop more fat and gets a more defined face. If you are hoping to see those adorable chunky cheeks, it is recommended to schedule between 28-34 weeks. After 34 weeks, it generally becomes more difficult to obtain good pictures since baby is running out of room. However, all babies are different, and it may still be possible to obtain great images all the way up to 39 weeks!

What’s the difference between a 2D, 3D, 4D and HD ultrasound?2D is the traditional black and white ultrasound image that you will typically receive at your doctor's appointment. 3D images show much greater detail of the baby's facial features. (Bronze in color) 4D shows movement -- yawns, smiles, kicks, etc. HD shows even more detail and a richer color. (Pinkish/skin tone in color)

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Your imaging session is strictly an elective ultrasound. Any woman seeking an ultrasound at Silo Imaging Studio must be under the care of a doctor for her current pregnancy and needs to have previously undergone a medical, diagnostic ultrasound to confirm the due date, screen for fetal abnormalities and to look for any other pregnancy related concerns. Please note, at no time is this exam to be used in place of a complete diagnostic ultrasound.
-
Is ultrasound safe?Unlike X-rays, ultrasounds do not involve radiation. 3D and 4D ultrasound use the same frequency as your doctor uses in the normal 2D ultrasound. Extensive studies over the last 35 years have found no evidence that ultrasounds cause any harm to mother or the developing baby.

Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?Usually, but not always. Every baby, mama and pregnancy scans differently. Babies have a mind of their own and therefore, I cannot always guarantee cooperation. Sometimes if the baby is facing down (i.e. towards your spine) it may be difficult to see their face. Other factors that can influence the images include how far along you are, baby's position, amount of amniotic fluid, and mother’s condition. Every effort is made to obtain the best possible images of your little one.
-
Can I hear baby's heartbeat?Yes, if you are 14+ weeks! The AIUM (American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine) strictly prohibits the use of pulse-wave doppler for 'hearing baby's heartbeat' or for 'heartbeat recordings' with ultrasounds prior to week 12 of pregnancy. The safety and health of you and your baby is my highest priority. Having that said, in the first trimester we will only view and measure baby's heart rate. If you want to "hear" baby's heartbeat, record it on your phone or purchase a heartbeat animal, please schedule your ultrasound when you are 14+ weeks.
-
What if I am having twins?Congratulations! What a blessing!! There is a small up charge of $25 for twins. Best images of twins are usually obtained around 22-27 weeks because they aren't as crowded at this time.
-
How do I prepare for my appointment?Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Maintaining a healthy fluid intake is so important, especially while you are pregnant. Drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water every day for at least 3-4 days leading up to your appointment. Doing so will help obtain optimal amniotic fluid levels for your ultrasound. It is also recommended to have a light snack about 20 minutes before your appointment.
-
Do I need a full bladder? Please come with a full bladder if you are less than 14 weeks.
-
Can I bring family and friends?Yes! In fact, having family and friends join you during your ultrasound session is encouraged! Children and siblings are also welcome as long as they will be supervised by an adult during your appointment. This is a joyous and wonderful experience, one that can and should be shared with your family and loved ones!
-
Are children allowed at Silo Imaging Studio?Children are allowed at Silo Imaging Studio only if accompanied by an adult aged 18 or older to supervise them. This policy ensures you can fully enjoy your ultrasound and bond with your little one, while also protecting the studio from any potential damage.
-
Is insurance accepted at Silo Imaging Studio?Currently, insurance does not cover the costs of elective ultrasounds. Since this is an elective service and is not intended to be a replacement for your doctor ordered ultrasound, you will need to pay for the cost of this ultrasound as an out-of-pocket expense. We accept both cash and credit cards.
-
Do I need an appointment?Yes, appointments are required for all services.

What is an ARDMS sonographer and why does this matter?American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography® (ARDMS®) is a nationally recognized organization that has been providing award credentials in Sonography since 1975. ARDMS-certified sonography professionals meet rigorous criteria in both knowledge and expertise in Sonography. Having a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) ensures quality and safety for you and your baby during your ultrasound scan. To achieve and maintain the RDMS status, the following are required: A minimum of 2 years Undergraduate Degree A minimum of 1 year proven clinical skills Two Board Examinations administered by ARDMS® must be passed: - Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) Exam - Specialty exam such as Obstetrics and Gynecology. Must maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits that are approved by ARDMS®. ARDMS credentials are recognized as the top standard throughout the medical community. In most areas of the U.S. there are no restrictions on who can perform elective ultrasounds. This means that anyone can purchase an ultrasound machine and perform an elective ultrasound without proper education and training. Many other elective imaging centers may claim that the individuals performing the ultrasounds have been "trained" or are "certified" -- in most cases, these individuals are not registered with the ARDMS. To ensure you are receiving the highest level of care, ask if the person performing your sonography examination has been certified by ARDMS.
